Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI)

A vendor managed inventory program optimises supply chain performance by allowing the vendor to assume responsibility for generating purchase orders to replenish its manufacturing customer's inventory. Ownership of inventory only changes when goods are 'consumed' by the manufacturer.
Core to DHL's inbound to manufacturing solution is our vendor managed inventory program, where we act as an intermediary between manufacturers and inventory suppliers. This helps suppliers to reduce investment, inventory holding and transportation costs, and better synchronises demand and supply - thereby minimising, if not eliminating, inventory obsolescence.
