Services that increase the value generated for our customers from outsourced logistics operations - ranging from kitting to packaging and bundling.

At DHL we offer the widest variety of value-added services in the logistics sector, and aim to provide consistent services of high quality across the world. They include:

Co-Packing

Integrating outsourced packing operations (contract packing or 'co-packing') into distribution centres increases flexibility and streamlines fulfilment - reducing cost, enhancing product visibility and control, and increasing speed to market. DHL offers a comprehensive co-packing service - including the re-packing of finished product to support product launches, promotions and customisation for local markets.

Product Assembly/Postponement

Product assembly involves the manufacture of finished products from modules and components - and is often used to enable a postponement strategy. Postponement (also known as 'deferred completion') involves creating large runs of standardised products and customising them for local markets in the downstream supply chain - minimising stockholdings and cutting inventory obsolescence, while maintaining high levels of flexibility and customer service.

We offer a wide range of postponement services and processes - including tailored packaging and bundling, hardware configuration, software installation, and localisation (e.g. addition of documentation and labels).

Kitting/Pre-Assembly

Kitting is the addition of items such as accessories and batteries into the product pack. Pre-assembly is the completion of finished merchandise from component parts, or the pre-programming of products. DHL again offers a full range of these services - including materials and order management, component kit build, assembly line operations, packing, shrink-wrapping and blister packs.

Sequencing/Line-Feeding

The consolidation, pre-assembly and sequencing of materials flows into manufacturing. Line-feeding covers the delivery of assembled components to a production line on a just-in-time or just-in-sequence basis.

Re-Work/Re-Packing

Re-work or redress is the customisation or modification of products - often to suit a local market. It covers re-packing of finished product to support a customer's product launches and promotions, and can also include re-palletisation.

Pick-and-Pack

Picking and packing of promotional items for transportation and retail display, including:

master carton packing of mixed stock keeping units (SKU)
weight verification
contents verification
re-packing
hang-tag labelling
clamshell/polybag enclosure/removal
security tag insertion/removal
battery insertion/removal
warranty card/documentation insertion
other country-specific requirements.

Packing and Bundling

Packing of products into suitable media for transportation and retail display. DHL's services include:

postponement packaging - primary, secondary and speciality components
retail-ready, point of purchase displays
lot control using digital laser printing
machinery systems engineering - labelling, bagging, carton-filling, - club store packs, clamshells and printed/unprinted film overwraps
make-to-order pallets
on demand (to order) packaging and labelling
component design, sourcing and stock management
qualified packaging for temperature-sensitive products, biological samples, etc.
packaging compliance analysis and reporting.

QA/QC Control

At DHL our quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) services ensure that products received from vendors into the warehouse or

consolidation centres, and despatched from it, are free from defects and in a suitable condition to meet our customers' quality requirements.

Labelling and Tagging

The application of labels either to the product or its packaging - including swing tags, kimball/security tags,

RFID tags, price stickers and other promotional labelling - ready for retail display.

Pre-Retailing/Merchandising

Work undertaken shortly before goods are displayed on the store shelf or rail to ensure they are in a merchandisable condition. Services offered by DHL include:

removal and recycling of transit packaging
conversion of garments from flat-pack to hanging
steam tunnelling/steam dollying (reconditioning of garments after long-distance transport)
finishing/repair
labelling and tagging
inclusion of promotional items.

Pre-retailing services also include presenting merchandise to the retail outlet in a store-friendly format - minimising handling and the processing space required in-store, and streamlining the flow of merchandise to the sales floor.

Packaging Design

With our extensive logistics experience, DHL responds to customers' needs by offering additional packing solutions, including packaging design and packaging materials procurement. We also offer environmentally friendly transit packaging - including safe and economical returnable containers, plus packaging-free transport solutions - thereby cutting waste and labour costs.

We are also a leading provider of packaging compliance services - ensuring that our customers' packaging complies with essential requirements legislation. We also offer a packaging optimisation service.

Payment/Billing Services

At DHL we offer a variety of billing and payment options for transport charges, duties and taxes - giving our customers the flexibility to invoice the sender, receiver or a third-party.

Cargo Insurance

On top of the standard DHL liability, we provide insurance services that offer our customers financial protection against risks of physical loss or damage from almost any external cause.

Customs Compliance

We combine our expertise in worldwide customs regulations with local knowledge to ensure the smooth flow of international shipments.

Consolidation/Deconsolidation

At DHL we provide

Security

DHL is a pioneer in security for the freight industry and was the first freight forwarder to establish a worldwide in-house security department. Our integrated security activities focus on all aspects of loss prevention, and we offer our customers professional advice and security consultancy. Internal security audits and risk management programs ensure transparency for our customers, while a global incident reporting system enables quick response to security-related incidents.

Incoterms

The sales contract between the seller (shipper) and buyer (consignee) usually forms an important foundation for the provision of logistics services for customers. Incoterms, as issued by the International Chamber of Commerce, are designed to be an integral part of these contracts - regulating the division of costs, risks and obligations between the seller and buyer.
