Kim Peltonen
Meet Kim Peltonen
Kim is Executive Manager, Freight Forwarding and Production/ECO, DHL Express, Finland.
How long have you worked here?
I have been working in this position since October 2003.
Please describe the main tasks of your job.
First of all: "To keep up the joy of work in the whole Freight Team!" Other, more specific tasks of my job are the overall and development responsibility for Freight Production and Operations and for the Finnish part of the Nordic equipment fleet. Thus, I negotiate with ferry companies and hauliers, optimize payloads of trucks and trailers in ex- and import traffics and secure and improve internal and external communication - among many other responsibilities.
Please give a short description of your career so far! What training/studies have been necessary to qualify for your job?
In 1979, I finished commercial college in Helsinki with foreign trade as my main subject. I then started my career as a trainee in Lübeck, Germany. I worked in a company which was responsible for the distribution of Finnish forest products in Europe. Afterwards, I became the department manager of that company until the end of 1985. Shortly after that, I got the possibility to establish an affiliate of the transport company John Nurminen in Lübeck. I was the Managing Director until the company was liquidated in the springtime of 1996. At the same time the Danzas Traffic-Center GmbH was founded as a successor of it. I continued my work there, again as the Managing Director. In the beginning of 2002, I moved back to Finland to Danzas ASG Eurocargo and got the responsibility to be FTL Country Head.
Describe a typical working day!
A typical day consists of many different tasks: Various Meetings, a lot of phone calls and communication with all type of internal and external interest groups. Naturally, I also spend a lot of time reading and answering emails - everything according to my main tasks.
Who are the people that you meet while doing your job?
Everyone has mainly to do with transports of all means. Their professions are mostly of a commercial type.
What do you like most about your job? Are there parts that you don't like?
I enjoy my job extremely every second. Every day has to be the best in life. All kind of double reporting is every now and then a bit unpleasant, but a part of the life at DHL, as in so many other companies.
What is the most important thing to watch in your job?
The most important thing is keeping up the good and excellent working spirit on all levels within my influence.
