Chihuahua, Mexico, September 28, 2006.- DHL, the global market leader in international express and logistics, informed about the Air infrastructure modernization that will operate in the region, as well as of the details concerning growth plans that will involve an estimated 40 million pesos investment. The decision was made due to the volume sustained growth registered in the last 15 months, that represents more than 40 per cent in deliveries that require an air route.
This year in Chihuahua, DHL handled more than 1,500 tons in shipments during the January-August period. This approximately represents 3% of the daily shipments that the company transports in Mexico; while Ciudad Juarez represents approximately a 2.4 per cent of shipments nationwide. Both locations result in approximately 500 thousand airwaybills per day.
DHL´s Operations Center in Chihuahua receives documents and parcels from all over the country, most of them from Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Torreon, Durango as well as from Ciudad Juarez and Chihuahua themselves.
“Chihuahua plays an important role in DHL Mexico´s strategic plan. This plan aims at developing Domestic and International growth-focused programs implementing a more competitive product portfolio as well as delivering more shipments in 24 hours or less; in the past, transit times were between 2 and 3 days. This new air infrastructure will connect faster to one of the regions of the country that has great industrial relevance.” declared: Erika Quezada, Operational Planning Director, DHL Mexico.
DHL´s Operations Center in Chihuahua is a 32 thousand square feet area in which more than 30 employees work, as well as other 20 employees located in Ciudad Juarez. At the moment, the operation in this location has 24 ground routes, covering the whole state.
The new air route comprises Ciudad Juarez - Chihuahua - Monterrey - Mexico - Monterrey - Chihuahua - Ciudad Juarez, and has the capacity to ship (specifically in this route) an average of 220 thousand pounds in monthly shipments through the SAAB 340 aircraft (in the past, only 88 thousand pounds could be shipped by air) operated by our business partner Saint Ex Cargo.
