Mexico City, February 1st, 2006.- In order to provide support to the growth forecasted for the next five years, as well as to increase its handling capacity of documents and packages up to 45 percent, DHL remodeled its Operations Center located in Av. Fuerza Aérea Mexicana No. 540, in Mexico City.
The extension project of the DHL´s HUBs nationwide will allow the company, leader in logistics services in Mexico, increasing its capacity in the Mechanical Transportation System, as well as improving the efficiency and agility of its maintenance system. Additionally, an increase of 10 percent of the routes is planned, which will mean reaching more destinations, in time and form, and thus satisfying more customers.
The extension and specific remodeling of the HUB of Hangars implied an investment of about $13 million pesos.
Luis Eraña, Vice President of Operations, affirmed: “The remodeling of the HUB in Mexico not only meets the need to increase our capacity to load and unload units, but also means a total improvement of our current transport network to have the best and most sophisticated Operations Center in the industry, which finally means savings in operations costs, improvements in labor times and providing a better services to our clients”.
With the improvements made to the HUB, now it is possible to load and unload up to 384 trailers per month, at a maximum capacity, which represents a 12% increase, which matches the increase in volume the company has had during the last years.
“The remodeling of the DHL´s HUBs nationwide strengthens our evident leadership in the logistics service market in Mexico. We move 65 thousand packages everyday in the Mexican Republic, which equals 280 tons”, mentioned Luis Eraña.
The remodeling of the HUB consisted in a redistributions aimed to optimize the spaces in order that 45 percent additional operations are carried out in the same area. Moreover, it provides a better materials flow, as well as an optimum handling of large dimension packages.
The Hangars HUB operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day and has advanced infrastructure such as automatic sorting; network monitoring centers; a large loading and unloading capacity; 3,000 m2 for temporary storage; 100% trained personnel, as well as radio frequency and GPS systems.
