Fuel Surcharge

Changes in fuel prices result in fluctuating costs for the transport industry, necessitating a variable fuel surcharge which may rise, fall or be removed, in line with movements in fuel prices.

The fuel surcharge for international, Time Definite and Day Definite services will be based on the monthly average spot prices for kerosene/jet fuel (monthly average spot prices are found on the U.S Gulf Coast Index), as published by the US Department of EnergyExternal Link / New Window: US Department of Energy. Prices are expressed in (USD) cents per US gallon.
The fuel surcharge for domestic Time Definite and Day Definite services will be based on the national consumer prices in local currency, inclusive of duties and taxes, of turbosine and diesel fuel respectively. Within Mexico, this is measured by the Petroleos MexicanosExternal Link / New Window (PEMEX) index. The prices published here are expressed in Mexican Pesos per liter.
There will be a two month lag in the application of the index. For example, the monthly average price for fuel in January is used to determine the applicable surcharge for March. This is due to the release dates of the spot pricing data.

The fuel surcharge applies to transportation charges on all services and to the following surcharges (where applicable):
  • Dedicated Delivery
  • Dedicated Pickup
  • Elevated Risk
  • Late Pickup
  • Remote Area Delivery

DHL Express reserves the right to change the fuel surcharge index and table with or without notice. Both the amount and duration of the surcharge will be determined at DHL's sole discretion. If the fuel surcharge drops below 0.25% or rises above 5.00% the above table will be updated.
