Corporate Responsibility is a core element of our corporate strategy. Acting responsibly as a company means we treat our employees, the environment, the interests of society and the capital that has been entrusted to us in a manner that is respectful and sustainable. Only in this way can we be successful in the long term.
GoGreen minimizes the impact of our actions on the environment by using resources in a responsible manner. DHL was the first global logistics provider to introduce an environmental protection program with a quantified carbon efficiency target in the industry in 2008 called GoGreen. We were the first to set a quantified target to improve the CO2 efficiency of our operations by 30% by year 2020, compared to our 2007 baseline. This means using more efficient transport, optimized route planning, alternative sources of energy and innovative technologies. With these measures we have already surpassed our 2012 target two years ahead of time. Additionally, we offer customers our GOGREEN Carbon Neutral service to reduce and offset their carbon emissions and two reporting services to measure and estimate CO2 emissions generated during the transport of customer shipments: GOGREEN Carbon Footprint and GOGREEN Carbon Estimate.
GOGREEN Carbon Neutral
DHL was the first logistics company to offer a carbon neutral shipping service –GOGREEN Carbon Neutral. For a service charge, DHL enables customers to offset their estimated CO2 emissions at an account and shipment level. These emissions are then offset by reinvesting in environmental protection projects verified by United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Gold Standard (GS) or Voluntary Carbon Standards (VCS).
Customers who choose the GOGREEN Carbon Neutral service will receive an annual certificate issued in April, identifying the total amount of estimated carbon emissions from their GOGREEN shipments that will be neutralized in environmental protection projects for the prior year. This certificate can support their corporate sustainability mandates.
Ensuring accountability, our program is annually verified by an independent body – the Swiss based Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS) – one of the few independent organizations accredited by the World Bank to verify environmental protection projects and adhere to high standards. SGS verifies DPDHL against the principles of ISO 14064, ensuring that enough of our verified carbon credits are retired each year to neutralize the CO2 footprint for GOGREEN shipments.
DPDHL purchases carbon credits for the environmental protection projects of the highest quality that have been verified by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Gold Standard (GS) or Voluntary Carbon Standards (VCS) with official registries, such as a Wind Power Plant in Nicaragua or Landfill Gas Plant in Turkey

GOGREEN Carbon Reporting
In 2012, DHL Express expanded its GOGREEN services portfolio with two new services: GOGREEN Carbon Footprint and GOGREEN Carbon Estimate.
• GOGREEN Carbon Footprint:
This report provides customers with detailed transparency of their actual CO2 footprint emissions at trade lane, product, mode of transport, account and shipment level for a specified period of time to support customers with baseline target setting to evaluate carbon reduction decisions. For an annual service charge, customers will receive quarterly and annual detailed and summary reports to measure their transportation CO2 footprint. The CO2 calculation methodology is verified by SGS.Benefits of GOGREEN Carbon Footprint reporting:
- Transparency: a clear baseline to analyze your environmental footprint, measure emission improvements over time and set a foundation for initiative tracking and target setting
- Accuracy: Credible and detailed visibility of your carbon footprint on a quarterly and annual basis, assuring you the confidence to support carbon reduction strategies using a precise, reliable, certified methodology
- Highest Standards: follows Greenhouse Gas Protocol and World Economic Forum Consignment Level standards. The calculation system and methodology are verified by SGS along the principles of the IS0 14064.
• GOGREEN Carbon Estimate:
This report provides customers with a one-time, high-level estimate of their CO2 footprint emissions. For a single service charge, customers get visibility of their CO2 footprint for prior three months to support forecasting, based on global average carbon emission factors.Please contact your sales representative to find out more details.

With the second program, TELETON – we support rehabilitation
In October 2007, DHL entered into an agreement with Renapred (Red Nacional para la prevención de la discapacidad, the National Network for Disabilities Prevention), an organization whose goal is to reduce the logistical complexity of recollecting and transporting samples used in Neonatal Screening. Currently, and as part of this agreement, DHL Express has transported over 700 thousand samples a year at over 250 collection sites equal to 70% of hospitals and health centers that make up the network belonging to the Ministry of Health on a national level. Last year alone, there was a 90% reduction in delivery times which yielded 680 timely detections in newborns.
**Neonatal Screening (known in Spanish as Tamiz Neonatal): a test consisting of drawing a few drops of blood from a newborn’s heel between the 3rd and 5th day after birth for analysis and timely detection of disabilities due to congenital hypothyroidism.To learn more about the actions taken with RENAPRED-DHL please visit: Press release 2010 (only available in spanish).

In addition, and as part of this significant effort, over 3,400 DHL employees made voluntary donations to benefit Teleton children.
